Little Things

Turning the mini wheats over so the frosted part is facing up. Tearing the cheese off the pizza, so that the only topping left is tomato sauce. Using sticky notes as bookmarks even when I have a bunch of super cute ones with butterflies on them! Putting all my pillow cases and blankets in the washing machine after I get home from someone’s house so that they smell like home. Erasing my handwriting if the y’s and g’s don’t look right. It’s the little things, I think, that makes us so special.

Yesterday, on one of my many writing prompt apps (they really come in handy – last night my family and I went out to eat with my Mimi and Pop Pop, and I was bored so I got a writing prompt and starting writing it out in my notes on my iPod), the prompt was Don’t sweat the little things. Agree or disagree? I have to admit, at first I agreed, but then I thought it through, and now I disagree.

Isn’t it the little things that make us do our best? I mean, from my friends telling me my room is always super clean (it’s not always, but my mom never really tells me to pick my room up, I just do), to getting all A’s on my report card, it feels good. And it’s because I do sweat the little things. So sweat the small stuff sometimes, it’s okay. And it’s still okay to collapse on the couch after a long day, because let’s face it, nobody’s perfect. And no one can constantly sweat the little things without getting dehydrated. (Haha, bad pun!)

So I’ll continue to sweat the little things, because in the end, I feel good about it.
